Guidelines
We are non-profit, living history companies in the state of Kentucky. We do this to educate the public about one of this country’s greatest conflicts. We are also here to honor the men and women of that time. This is a fun endeavor, but also a great responsibility. We have no affiliations to any organization that promotes hatred or any illegal activities. Buckner’s Battery / 6th Kentucky Infantry, Company C, Inc. and 6th Kentucky Infantry Regimental Field Hospital, CSA, Inc. are not responsible for damage to or loss of personal property or personal injury.
1. Membership is open to anyone regardless of race, sex, or religion.
2. Families are welcome and encouraged.
3. Children under 16 must not be left unsupervised.
4. Ages 16 and up may be dropped off at an event for the weekend, or drive themselves. However, they must be able to provide for themselves for the entire weekend.
5. All new members are on probation for one year. At the end of one year, a member can be asked to leave by the commanders for whatever reason. Any member may of course, leave at any time.
1. We shall try to have one Max event per month, from April to October.
2. An Active Member is one who is 16 years old or older, has paid their annual dues, and has attended no less than three Max Events in one year.
3. Active members are then entitled to vote on any company business, including events. They may also make nominations and motions, and hold rank or an office.
4. Annual Dues must be paid by the first Max Event of the year.
1. Using common sense and staying safe are paramount.
2. Respect each other at all times.
3. Practicing 19th Century manners is encouraged.
4. Under age alcohol use and smoking is illegal and not permitted.
5. Alcohol use should be limited to after public hours.
6. Excessive drunkenness/rowdiness will not be tolerated.
7. Please watch your language around children and spectators.
8. If you have a problem of any kind, or with anyone, tell your commander, so it can be dealt with immediately.
1. The camp shall be organized per the commander’s direction.
2. During public hours, modern items should be disguised, hidden, or used under cover.
3. Tents and accouterments in camp should appear period (1860’s) correct.
4. Respect for other’s camps and accouterments should be maintained at all times.
5. Night time courtesy should be used in camp after 11:00PM.
6. Fire pits should be maintained a safe distance from tents.
7. A bucket of water should be near to each fire pit.
1. After enlistment, you have one year to obtain your required uniform and equipment needs. Requirements are spelled out in the New Soldier Uniform and Equipment Needs Sheet.
2. Observe military courtesy to all officers and NCO’s during public hours.
3. Carry and use a full canteen at drills and engagements.
4. Stay in period dress during public hours.
5. During public hours, a coat or vest should be worn outside of camp. Lolly gagging around camp can be done in just a shirt.
6. Keep an eye on your own equipment, some things are easy to lose.
7. Maneuver and drill times will be announced. Be on time.
8. Know your own limitations. It is better to drop out, than be carried out.
9. Knives, if carried, must be firmly secured at all times.
1. Medical officers will be appointed by the Medical Commander.
2. New members will receive a separate set of medical guidelines.
1. Artillery officers will be appointed by the Artillery Commander.
2. Training will take place prior to going on the field.
3. Certification should be had once a year or every other year. This will depend on the expiration date.
4. Evening activities and conversation in Artillery Camp may not be suitable for children.
1. Infantry officers will be appointed by the Infantry Commander.
2. Treat every gun as if it were loaded.
3. Firearm proficiency shall be tested before taking the field.
4. Three banded muskets are required on the field.
5. Under 30 feet, fire over your target. Under 15 feet do not fire at all.
6. No firing in camp without a "fire in the hole" announcement.
7. No hand to hand combat without prior approval of the commanders and a rehearsal.
8. Stay 50 yards in front of artillery, or farther.
9. Beware of horses, they cannot be predicted.
10. You should be 16 years old or older to take the field under arms. It is understood that children grow and develop at different rates. Therefore with parental consent, passage of the firearm proficiency test, and the commander’s approval, the age limit may drop to 13 years old.
11. For appearance sake, the commander may set minimum height guidelines.
12. Pistols may only be carried by commissioned officers and 1st Sergeants.
13. Boots can only be worn by commissioned officers and NCO’s.
14. During drill a vest may be worn. Coats must be worn in battle with at least the top button hooked.
15. We will be known as the 13th Kentucky Infantry, Company D when portraying Union. This will change if a Union unit adopts this name.
1. Clothing should be made in period styles. No zippers.
2. Ladies, be careful around fires, your dresses are flammable.
