The June 12th edition of The Adair Progress newspaper included an article on some of our members.  Tom Gentry and his daughter Sarah and Paul Withington and his wife Zenta were highlighted.  The article is very good with several pictures.  It talks about the part that each member has in our group and about reenacting in general.  This was a great piece for speading the word about our unit and for highlighting some of the paper's hometown reenactors.  Great job!

Captain Jefferies and Sgt Stratton attended the Jefferson Davis Birthday Celebration at Fairview, KY on June, 9th.  There were programs thoughout the day and lots of people were there for the President's birthday.  The pair met two of Davis' great grandsons, along with H.K. Edgerton and author William C. Davis.

Captain's Report from Sacramento 08.
By Captain Shannon Jefferies
Sacramento was held on May 16-18 this year and the weather was wonderful.  We had a great turnout for the event.  Infantry members included:  Doug Kwaizer, Tom Gentry, Tim Brueggemann, David Brueggemann, Ryan Flanigan, Seth Maggard, Zack Woolfolk, Tyler Veckner and myself.  It was good to finally meet our new guys, the Brueggemann brothers.  We joined with the 2nd and 5th for the weekend as a company with the Tennessee Valley Battalion.  After being xo on Saturday I got to be Captain of our combined company on Sunday.  We were even honored by having our units battle flag carried by the battalion.  Thanks to the commanders and men of the 2nd, 5th and the TVB.  We were made very welcome and have been invited to join the TVB.  I would like my guys imput on this.  The 6th Kentucky Infantry has already made a name for it's self and we will continue to grow with honor.  Great job men!  The 6th Kentucky Infantry Hospital members included:  Paul Withington, Phil Kissinger, and Kathy Hill.  The new hospital tent saw plenty of action.  Our medical staff's hard work really showed and everything looked great.  Artillery members included:  Leonard Lay, Chris Stratton, Andy Woolfolk, Beth Robinson, Eric Smith, and Ann Collins.  Buckner's Battery was the loudest on the field as always!  Civilians included: Zenta Withington and Sarah Gentry.  Sarah also won the Miss Mollie pageant.  Everyone had a great weekend.  We got to meet our new friends from Texas, David Loper and Andrew Sevier.  We even got to shoot our old reporter friend David Wolfe again.  Thanks to Sacramento for taking such good care of us.

Several members attended the event at Rising Sun, Indiana on April 25-27.  All of us had something happen that had never happened at an event before.  We got paid!  Each reenactor who attended received $50.  This was a great help with gas prices being what they are.  This turned out to be a nice little event after the storms moved out on Friday night.  Members attending included: Shannon Jefferies, Paul Withington, Leonard Lay, Chris Stratton, Eric Smith and Cheri Kuhn.  Everyone made sure that Buckner's Battery was heard loud and clear in the Yankeeland.  The townspeople were very friendly and the food at the casino was great.  Everyone had a good time.

On April 4th, nine members of our unit put on a Civil War school program at Warren Central High School.  Members included:  Shannon Jefferies, Paul Withington, Zenta Withington, Kathi Hill, Leonard Lay, Chris Stratton, Ann Collins, Doug Kwaizer, and Brandon McIntire.  Brandon attends school there and helped set up the program.  The day long program included three different "stations" set up.  Each class was divided into three groups and each group spent about 15 minutes at each "station".  Infantry, Artillery and Medical topics were covered.  Members and students alike seemed to enjoy the day.  Check out some pics on the Photo Album page.

Medical News by Doc Withington.
During the past two months, the members of the field hospital have had two training sessions.  We have added to our bandage supply, increased our supplies of faux medicines, and enjoyed some great times and lunches together.  We actually erected our new operating arena for the first time.  It went up very well considering that none of us have ever tried to pitch a free standing tent of this design before.  However, this year, our audience will be treated to a 14' x 14' operating arena.  We also tried out the two new stretchers that will also serve as "operating tables for the Surgeon and the Assistant Surgeon.  Our chief steward has a new desk, bandage roller, and a pill roller so Thomas should remain occupied for a little while with tasks that do not involve keeping the surgeon on the straight and narrow.  All told, it looks like the 6th Kentucky Regimental Field Hospital is heading for our best year, ever.  We could still use a little more help, if you are interested.  Nurses ( male or female ) are in short supply, as are permanent patients.  Good screamers are hard to find.  Hope to see you at an event this year, stop by and chat.

Captain Jefferies and Private Trent marched in the Louisville St. Patrick's Day parade on March 15th.  Private Trent is active in the Sons of Union Veterans in that area.  So the good Captain became a Union Corporal for the parade.  Even with the rain it was fun day.

We would like to welcome our newest members.  Tim and David Brueggrmann, who are brothers, have joined our unit as Infantry Privates.  Welcome!

On February 15-17, Captain Jefferies attended a living history event at Fort Donelson, TN.  Programs included reenacting the surrender of the fort by General Simon B. Buckner (Jim Jean) to General U.S. Grant (Ron Bair).  Captain Jefferies got to portray General Buckner's aide, Captain John Galleher.  There was also a dinner and ball on Saturday night.  This is an event that members may want to attend next year. The Captain wants to thank Mr. Jim Jean for being his guest for the weekend.  Also thanks to everyone at the Riverside Plantation Inn.

The February Edition of The Amplifier magazine included a feature story about Captain Jefferies.  The Captian felt that this was an honor and that it helped spead the word about the our unit.  There was an online version that you can see by going to the Amplifier's website on the Links page.

The business meeting for the unit took place on January 26th at the home of Major Withington.  There were seventeen who braved the cold and flurries to attend.  The major's wife, Zenta made a wonderful lazanua dinner.  It was decided there will be no dues this year.  This year's schedule was voted on, see the schedule page.  New member packets were passed out along with recruiting flyers.  Everyone remember to put these up in your hometown.  If anyone needs flyers, contact Captain Jefferies.  Everyone had a great time catching up with each other and are looking forward to a great season ahead.

Captain Jefferies was the guest speaker at the January 24th meeting of the South Central Kentucky Historical and Genealogical Society.  This was held at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center in Glasgow, KY.  His Civil War program including explaining about his uniform and gear, showing rifle drills and talking about Kentucky's Confederate soldiers.  There was a nice crowd of forty or so people who showed up to watch.  This program helped to promote the unit, as the 6th Kentucky Infantry, Company C hailed from Glasgow and Barren County, KY.  Captain Jefferies would like to thank all of the nice people who attended with a special thanks to Sandi Gorin.

The December 23rd edition of the Barren County Progress newspaper included an article about Captain Jefferies and our unit.  There was a picture of the captain on the front page and the story went on to talk about reenacting and recruiting for our unit.  This was very fitting since the 6th Kentucky Infantry, Company C came from Glasgow and Barren County, KY.

There was a Christmas party on December 15th at Major Withington's home.  There was plenty to eat and everyone had a good time.  Thanks to the Major and his wife, Zenta for hosting it.

Captain Jefferies was a bell ringer at the Glasgow Wal-Mart for the Salvation Army on December 8th.  He did this in uniform on behalf of our unit.  He raised quite a bit of money for this great cause and plans on doing it again.  This would be a good thing for all members to do in their hometowns.
